Selecting An Under-Cabinet Light
Under cabinet lights are the lights that are fixed under cabinets of kitchen to light up small dark cabinets and make them convenient to use. With the help of these lights your kitchen becomes lively and more useful.
Bar light is a good option to light up the under cabinet area. Bar light contains a series of light bulbs that are fixed inside a rectangular bar. This rectangular bar is covered with a glass covering to provide even and combined light in the cabinet or the place where such lights are installed. These lights can also be used with a wall outlet. Under cabinet bar lights can be found in three different types.
Fluorescent lights can also be used as under cabinet lights and are very cost effective. You can get these lights in various styles and sizes to meet your need. These lights are very advantageous to use and have also got energy star rating. One big disadvantage of using this light is that sometimes they produce flickering light which could badly harm your eyes.
Halogen lights have ability to generate bright and intense light which makes them a good choice for under cabinet lighting. The quality of light produced by a halogen light is somewhat similar to sunlight. Therefore, these lights do not harm your eyes. One disadvantage of using halogen bulbs is that they produce a lot of heat due to which they get extremely hot and could also burn your finger or hand.
Initial cost of xenon light is much more than a fluorescent or halogen light but xenon lights offer many advantages that make their cost worth. Xenon light bulbs last five times longer than halogen lights. Unlike fluorescent light bulbs, light doesn\'t flicker in a xenon bulb and generates natural and cool light. As per as energy consumption is concerned, xenon lights could save a lot in your pocket in form of electricity bills.
Puck lights are small in size and have round shape. These lights are fixed under cabinets to provide light like accent light. A puck light is 3/2 inches tall and 7-8 inches around. Inside your cabinet, you can either use a single light or combination of puck lights fixed in row.
In halogen puck lights, halogen bulbs are used. These lights can be plugged in a wall outlet. These lights also contain a transformer to convert the supply of 120 volts to 12 or 15 volts according to your requirement. As mentioned above, halogen lights are very hot to touch so you need to fix them at a certain distance.
Xenon puck lights have all the advantages of xenon lighting units with the added bonus of being small and easily mounted. Unlike halogen bulbs, xenon bulbs do not require special treatment when installing or removing. In addition, xenon lights are cooler than halogen lights, making them more pleasant to work around.
