Landscaping Edging Is A Decorative Way To Keep Mulch Contained

Planting a garden is a great way to prepare for the spring. Gardening is also a hobby that can be a rewarding way to display your hard work for all to see. The best time to plant bulbs is best done at the end of fall prior to the spring you would like them to bloom. Before beginning your gardening it is necessary to have all of the items you will need for starting the project. You will need seeds or bulbs, a tool for digging, markers, mulch and landscaping edging.

Remember when choosing seeds to read the packet and only purchase the ones that will grow well in an area you intend to use as a garden. If you only have shaded areas, there are plenty of pretty flowers that thrive well in shaded areas. The seeds will need to be planted in containers with good drainage when planting for indoor starts.

If the area you have chosen for your garden is in a shaded area, the seeds you choose should be flowers that grow well in the shade. Some flowers do well in both shaded and sunny areas so read the packet well before purchasing.

Put soil in the container, lay the seeds on top of soil and cover with a small amount of more soil. The containers should be place in well lit areas such as a window ledge. Turn the containers often to ensure they get sunlight on all areas of the plant.

It will take a few weeks for the seeds to spout and become plants so do not get frustrated if there are no plants blooming in only a few days. The seedlings will be approximately six inches tall when the get planted outside.

Dig a hole approximately six inches deep for plants. Place plant in the hole and cover with dirt. Sprinkling in soil that has purchased with added nutrients will help the plants get the nutrition needed for strong growth.

After all plants have been replanted in permanent area, put markers to identify the plants. After markers are place spread a two inch layer of mulch throughout the entire garden area.

The final step is to edge around the entire outside of the garden. In the edged area put landscaping edging of your choice, this could be a solid piece of plastic or a garden fence. The edging will prevent the flowers and mulch from shifting outside of the garden when being watered or during heavy rain. Remember to keep the garden weeded, watered and fed on a regular basis.
