Enhancing Your Home With Rugs

If you are fond of looking at magazines or books about interior designing, you will be amazed on how they design each room regardless of its size. If you are a keen observer, you will notice that 98% of these pictures have rugs on them. Why? Because rugs play a very important role in enhancing any room.

One of the easiest ways to redecorate your home without spending too much is through home rugs. In an instant, a perfectly chosen rug can turn a dull room into a lively one. Not that it beautifies an area, but it also serves as protection from cold tiles and concrete floors and it also prevents hardwood floors from unwanted scratches.

So, do you want to know how to modify your home with rugs? It is actually easy as long as keep in mind these critical factors:

Room Size. First and foremost, you need to know the area of your room. It does not matter if you have carpeted the whole floor area already. You can still place these rugs on them. As a general rule, you need to find an area rug that is 12 inches shorter than the shortest wall of your room.

Living Rooms. You need to consider your furniture layout. Do you have one or more conversation area? If you only have one, you may want to put one big rug to emphasize it, making it the center of attention. If you more than one, you may want to place rugs in these areas to group and define them. Another thing to keep in mind is that there should be 1 to 2 ft empty rug extending from the furniture.

For bedrooms, the main object of the room is the bed. You may want to put a rug underneath it to fully enhance this space. When placing the rug, one third of it should be under the bed. It should also extend to about 30 to 36 inches on its side.

Dining Rooms. Dining rooms with elegantly designed home rugs can create an intimate dining area. When choosing the appropriate size, you need to be sure that the table and the chairs can fit in it. You should also consider the chairs being pushed back, your rug should also cover that area. As a rule, you need to add at least 40 to 48 inches of rug to the total measurement of your dining table. This will give you enough space for your chairs.

Type of Rug. Rugs are made from different materials. You may want to choose the type of rug that would match your room\'s design. There are basically 2 types of it - rugs made from natural materials and the synthetically made. Naturally made rugs are usually from wood, grass or cotton. These are usually more expensive. Synthetic rugs on the other hand are made from nylon and polypropylene/oleifin. These are usually used in homes because they are a lot cheaper.

Rug Design. Of course, you need to find that suitable color and patterns. Dark colored rugs creates a more intimate area while light colored ones seemingly expand it. You may also choose heavy patterned rugs to hide falling hairs and pet hairs. If you have a traditional themed room, you may use Oriental rugs. For modern rooms, bold geometric patterns would be great. If you want to have that countryside ambiance, choose the braided area rugs.

There is lot of area rugs available in the market, mostly are low priced. It is just a matter of creativity to put things together and create that stylish, chic designed room.

Rugs add beauty to the fixtures of your home or office. It displays an accent to the floors which will help enhance its appearance and ambience. Or you may want to try yellow rugs for your children.
